It is crucial to have multiple data sets in data-based decision-making and action research (Skalski & Romero, 2011). Multiple data sets are required because more data validates the conclusion or decision (Vanselow et al., 2011). A single data set is not enough evidence to support a conclusion or data-based decision (Skalski & Romero, 2011). The more data that supports the conclusion or decision, the better. More data to support the conclusion or decision creates reliability in the project and ensures accuracy (Skalski & Romero, 2011).
In my data-based improvement plan, additional data sets with strike location for both amateurs and professionals would be extremely helpful. Unfortunately, this will likely not be possible for amateurs and will not be available for a long time for professionals. Amateur data is captured with GPS technology, with markers indicating where each shot was taken from. There will be no ball flight information from GPS data, and ball flight information needs to be captured before the strike location can. In the professional game, the distance data is captured by various methods, including launch monitors. High-end launch monitors can already capture strike locations, but this is currently not economically feasible at every professional golf tournament. Trackman capture ball flight data at various professional tournaments, but their total data points are not captured. The launch monitors that capture professional ball flight data are not the same as those made commercially available to the public.

“The use of multiple data collection techniques and sources strengthens the credibility of outcomes and enables different interpretations and meanings to be included in data analysis” (Shanks, Bekmamedova, 2018, Pg.203) Having multiple data sets is crucial in action research and data-based decision-making because it allows for a comprehensive understanding of the problem or issue under investigation. Each data set provides unique perspectives and insights, contributing to a more complete analysis and interpretation of the findings. “Other contexts may supply further evidence and thus, strengthen findings obtained from the analysis of one context only” (Jaworska, Kinloch, 2018, pg.5). For example, my project focused on the effectiveness of professional development programs for high school teachers in enhancing technology integration, multiple data sets could offer valuable information. One additional data set that could add valuable insights is qualitative data obtained through in-depth interviews or focus group discussions with participants. While surveys provide quantitative data on participants’ perceptions and experiences, qualitative data allows a deeper exploration of their thoughts, feelings, and motivations. For instance, interviews could explain the specific challenges faced by teachers in integrating technology into their classrooms, providing a richer context to understand their needs and preferences. Additionally, focus group discussions could facilitate peer interaction and idea sharing, revealing collective experiences and best practices that individual surveys may not capture.

Whenever one is conducting action research and data-based decision-making, it is essential to have multiple data sets to examine as they enhance the robustness of the findings. This means that whenever various data sets are used and reveal similar outcomes, then it represents the reality of what is happening. Using multiple data sets also allows for reduced risk of bias in a study. Biases undermine trust in medical research (Bradley et al., 2020). Depending on a single data set can easily lead to biases inherent in the selected data source. However, using multiple data sets allows researchers to lessen the influence of such biases and achieve balanced and reliable conclusions. The process of decision-making cannot begin until the existence of an issue is resolved (de Andreis, 2020). As a result, having multiple data sets allows for improved decision-making and the development of practical recommendations based on the study outcomes. Based on these points, researchers should strive to incorporate multiple data sets in their studies.
In the context of this project, two specific data sets would significantly enhance the research plan. The first is comparative data for the rate of MSK injuries against familiarity and knowledge of proper body mechanics. This data would provide a more detailed insight into the effectiveness of the proper body mechanics presentation on the sonographers. The second data set is the incidence of MSK-related injuries among the sonographers involved in the study. Collecting this data would illuminate the type of injuries occurring at the healthcare establishment and the circumstances surrounding them, such as back pain linked to MSK injuries. Having this data in the study would effectively complement the survey data collected before and after the presentation on proper body mechanics, thereby strengthening the overall research findings.
