PLEASE RESPOND BACK TO THIS STUDENTS DISCUSSION POST AND ANSWER EACH QUESTION. 5-6 SENTENCES FOR EACH POST.
1) Hello Professor,
Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a type of diabetes that develops during pregnancy. It is a condition in which a hormone made by the placenta prevents the body from using insulin effectively. Glucose builds up in the blood instead of being absorbed by the cells. While any pregnant woman can develop gestational diabetes mellitus, certain factors may elevate the risk, including those who are overweight, have a family history of diabetes or have previously given birth to a large baby, advanced maternal age (women over 25 are at higher risk), ethnicity (African-American, American Indian, Asian American, Hispanic or Latino, or Pacific Islander women have a higher risk) and prediabetes, also known as impaired glucose tolerance. If glucose is not closely regulated during pregnancy, it can lead to complications for both the mother and the baby. Some concerns include macrosomia (a condition where the baby grows larger than normal), preterm birth, preeclampsia, and an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in life for both the mother and the child, and hypoglycemia (refers to low blood sugar in the baby immediately after delivery. This problem occurs if the mother’s blood sugar levels have been consistently high, causing the fetus to have a high level of insulin in its circulation).

How can gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) be managed during pregnancy to minimize potential risks for both the mother and the baby?
2) Hello Rayan,
In regards to how a sedentary lifestyle can contribute to diabetes, I can say that it is one of the main risk factors that leads to a diabetes diagnosis. When one isn’t as active as they should be and have a sedentary lifestyle, it doesn’t allow the body to be active in regulate blood sugar and insulin levels. When one is active and remains active, it helps to body to regulate the blood sugar and insulin levels to be at the normal range its suppose to be at otherwise if the physical activity isn’t in place it can cause one to be diagnosed with diabetes. One just needs to make sure that they get some sort of physical activity in their daily routine for example walking around throughout the day instead of just sitting without any movement.
