(PLEASE READ ALL OF IT I HAVE THE NAME OF THE ARTICLE WITH THE AUTHOR I USED AT THE END)
For this paper, you will choose an article from an appropriate academic source, read it, and summarize it as described below. The article must be of appropriate interest to a college-level audience (for example, don’t choose something like “How to Play Tennis,” but instead something like “The Controversy about Gender Identity in Professional Tennis”) and must be at least four full pages long. It can come from online or a printed source such as a quality magazine (not something like People or Time, which are too simplistic) or scholarly journal (newspaper articles will probably not be long enough, so avoid those). It must have an author and not be a summary like a book review or a response to another article.
Title: Not just the article title, but the proper title plus what you are going to say about it.
Introduction (1-2 paragraphs): grab the reader’s attention and state both the author’s and your own subject and purpose.
Body (3 or more paragraphs):
Summarize the article you read in at least 3 properly edited paragraphs.
Give three or more responses to the article’s main points with evidence to back your ideas up (no outside research permitted—use only the article you chose).
NO direct quotations whatsoever. Paraphrase only.
Since everything comes from the same article, you do not need in-text citations.
You can include your responses in the same paragraphs as the paraphrase OR write separate paragraphs. The whole paper should end up being 5 or 6 paragraphs long (about two pages at most–keep it short, sweet, and to the point.
Responses could include the following approaches:
What do you think about the ideas in the article? Do you agree or disagree? Why?
How do the ideas in the article relate to your own experiences?(you could mention my insecurities on the internet)
How do the ideas in the article relate to other things you’ve read or heard about?
What do you notice about the way the article is written? What about the way it is written makes it more or less persuasive?
Conclusion: give a final point and tie back in with the introduction.
Work Cited: cite the article at the end in perfect MLA format. Consult your Seagull guide. (No in-text citations, just one at the end).
THE ARTICLE YOU ARE USING: “The Fame to Please: The Normalisation of Celebrtiies” By Dirk Schulz
(Please use this article and no other)
