  • Type of Research: Library-based research
  • Title: Reflections of Children’s Rights in the Choice Between Home and School Education for Special Children
  • Abstract: This eassy seeks to explore how the rights of special children—such as those who are blind, have ADHD, or other special needs—are considered in choosing between family education and school education. It will analyze the educational situations of these children and the impact of decision-makers on their participation to determine if their rights are fully respected. The study also examines the extent to which parents can intervene in their child’s school education and the potential consequences of such interventions, including violent behavior.

Feedback:

Hi! I have added some comments in the attached but I have a few main comments for the way in which you might expand this further:

1. It remains very general in tone, so will need lots more detail in all sections including the theory and the international principles. But in particular, you state that you are concerned particularly with China in the intro but then dont really address China at all. I suggest that you do searches of ‘inclusive education’ ‘inclusive education China’ and ‘inclusive education theory’. You should have a brief section on your search strategy and terms in your intro section – eg, if you want to focus on China, then say how you accessed Chinese policy and legislation.

2. you still need a bit more clarity about what you mean by home education and more research evidence on the strengths and weaknesses.

3. you might want to consider whether neurodevelopmental disorders are a particular challenge for inclusion in mainstream schools, and if so, whether special schools have a place in policy. Currently you say very little about special schools

4. You do need to consider the cultural context in relation to stigma and discrimination in more detail and if focusing on China, then in that context in particular.

5. I’d like to see the theories coming back later in the dissertation so that we can see how you have used them in considering the evidence and recommendations etc. For example, look at recommendations at each tier of the Bronfenbrenner model and consider some of the tough questions such as to what extent can children really choose where they would like to be educated? What are the resource implications and complexity of these kind of decisions?

6. I’d also like you to consider briefly concerns about parental maltreatment of home-schooled children and the implications for regulation.
