Please note: Papers not in APA format will not be graded and will receive a zero

June 30, 2024

Please note: Papers not in APA format will not be graded and will receive a zero.
For most Kinesiology majors, studying physical activity is a means to a specific end: preparing for a career in the physical activity profession.  To help you organize your thoughts about the types of work and work sites available to Kinesiology  majors, your class text has grouped the many careers according to general objectives and goals, working environments and qualifications.  This is an effort to help you determine whether you are suited for a career in Kinesiology.  This assignment (and the sequence of career assignments that you about to embark) is designed to create the infrastructure to help you move closer to choosing and understanding a career in Kinesiology that best fits your personality and interests.
Papers not in APA format will not be graded.  Please review the information and tutorial in the APA guidelines folder in the orientation module for specifics.
Choose a career you are interested in pursuing within the umbrella of Kinesiology.  Popular careers within the discipline include: physical therapist, occupational therapist, strength and conditioning coach, fitness trainer, athletic trainer, sports manager, and physical education teacher.   You can view all the career chapters in our class e-textbook PDF to get a better idea of the careers within the Kinesiology disciplines if you are not yet sure what direction you want to go with your degree.
AI Policy
For papers in this course, please edit, revise, and fact check any content that is AI-generated. Double check all citations AI provides and check any dates or facts it gives you, as these are often made up (this is called “hallucinationLinks to an external site.”). You also need to provide a full citation of any AI-generated content by putting quotation marks around it and providing an in-text citation (here is how you cite AI-generated contentLinks to an external site.). If you’re ever feeling uncertain about how to cite AI, err on the side of caution and explain how you used it directly in your paper. You could say things like… when prompted with the question, “x” ChatGPT claimed, “quote AI-generated content here” (ChatGPT).  AI tools, like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google Bard, etc. can be a very useful part of our writing process. They can help us brainstorm, organize our ideas, and provide support for grammar and syntax. However, presenting AI generated content as your own is considered plagiarism. Any use of AI to develop or generate ideas needs to include a direct citationLinks to an external site., just as you would include for other outside sources. You are more than welcome to utilize AI as a tool that is part of your learning process, not as a way to produce first and only drafts (i.e. putting an assignment prompt into ChatGPT, and submitting the work that is generated as your paper– that is plagiarism). If you’re concerned about accidentally plagiarizing something, please reach out to me! I want to you help you understand how to cite things!
Your paper should include all APA basic components:
APA Cover page
introduction paragraph with a clear purpose/thesis statement.
paragraph(s) that are reflective of the question prompts with appropriate explanations and examples that are relevant to the quesiton prompts.
12-pt generic font that is double spaced
Page numbers per APA (upper right corner)
Title of paper centered and 4 hard returns below the 1 inch margin on page 2
Level 1 section headings for each standard and conclusion.
Conclusion paragraph that summarizes/wraps up your paper.
APA Reference page referencing all resources that are not yours own thoughts and words.  If you cite/use other sources in your paper, please include on the reference page.
Note: You do not need to include an abstract for papers in this course.
AI use must be used and referenced according the DVC academic integrity policy.  See course syllabus
Write a 500-1000 word paper in APA format. Please be mindful of grammar, vocabulary, spelling and punctuation.
Include the following in your paper:
An introduction paragraph with a thesis statement and a clear purpose of your paper and includes your chosen career. Contains background information about you, who you are and why this is seemingly the right career path for you. Explain why you chose this career.  This can be a self-reflection narrative about past experience that pointed you towards pursuing an education in Kinesiology or just an elaboration about a calling or passion you want to turn in to an occupation. Make sure you clearly explain your career choice and introduce your paper to your audience, who could be an acceptance board at a 4-year university or even a potential employer.
Please include a paragraph for each of the following: Ethos, Logos, and Pathos explaining philosophically your career choice and how it correctly fits you based on you, your life, your experiences, interests, knowledge, etc.
LogosLinks to an external site.: Have you made it logically and structurally clear why you chose this career?  This would involve making sure that the structure and organization of your paper is clear on why you chose this career and what you would like to accomplish within the field of your chosen career.
EthosLinks to an external site.: Have you given support and information that appears concrete and in inline with your personal interests? Much of this would rest on your ability to find good, reliable information that suits the purpose of your paper and why you chose the career. Research is key! Do you have good sources or life experiences that make sense for what you are saying? What I mean by “make sense” is that an academic article is one way to develop credibility for your career choice, but you can also be a good researcher by being a good internet detective. For example, you might track down a newspaper or periodical article that supports your reasoning for choosing your career.
PathosLinks to an external site.: Have you made it clear (emotionally) why this career is significant to you? You can explain a previous experience or life event that led you to exploring this career.
3.  Lastly, explain in a paragraph, explain what you can do that is unique or something you would like to personally contribute to your chosen career or field of employment or explain how you would you like to contribute something personally to your career.
4.  Finish your paper with a conclusion paragraph that clearly summarizes and wraps up your thoughts.
Assignments are expected to be submitted by their due date/time to the designated module for full credit.  Each assignment will have its own assignment module.  Assignments NOT submitted in accordance with the assignment rubric or to incorrect module will not be graded and will receive a zero.
Late writing assignments can be turned in, but will come at an accumulating 10% reduction in points for every day late.
All papers in this course must be submitted as a PDF document.
