PLEASE FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS TO THE FULLEST BECAUSE MY INSTRUCTOR IS VERY TEDIOUS
In this final exam, you will demonstrate your understanding and personal engagement with the five distinct literary periods in American literature.
1. Colonial and Early National Period
2. Romantic Period
3. Realism and Naturalism Period
4. Modernist Period
5. Contemporary Period
Each response should be a thoughtful and reflective 250-word entry (like your journals), focusing on your personal reactions, responses, and thoughts about the literature from each period. Remember, this is not a summary of the readings, time periods, or author biographies; rather, it is an opportunity for you to engage with the text(s) on a personal level.
Requirements:
Use 12-point, Times New Roman font, double spaced.
Label each literary period with a boldfaced heading, like so: Colonial and Early National Period. The entire exam will all go in ONE document, please.
Use an MLA header in the top left-hand corner of the first page. This should contain the following, double-spaced:
Your name
Dr. Gail Suberbielle
ENGL 2173
The date, formatted like this: 14 November 2023
You may not use any previous journal entry.
Your work must be entirely your own. Any evidence of plagiarism or AI “writing” will result in an automatic zero on the assignment. You will be submitting the exam through Turnitin, a plagiarism and AI detection software (the same way you’ve submitted your journals).
Each entry must be a minimum of 250 words. You will have FIVE total entries, one for each literary period, so a minimum of 1,250 words.
Entries may not be author bios, plot summaries, or a recap of the literary period. I know all of that information! What I do not know is your thoughts, feelings, and reactions.
If you quote a work or author directly, please be sure to use quotation marks and page numbers and make sure it is clear where the information came from. A Works Cited page is not necessary since anything you might cite will come from the textbook.
Unlike your journal entries, grammar, spelling, mechanics count for this exam! Consider this a formal academic paper. Use spelling and grammar check.
Your paper must be a Microsoft Word document, either a .doc or .docx file. Other file types will not be accepted.
The exam will remain open for three days after the deadline, and you may submit it late for a 10% daily penalty, per course policies. The submission window will lock after that grace period, and you will no longer be able to submit.
This exam is worth 25% of your total grade for the class. It’s your time to shine! The exam will be graded using the literature grading rubric, which can be found in the final exam module.
