The determinants of health are the non-medical factors that influence health outcomes. They are the conditions in which people are born, grow, work, live, and age, and the wider set of forces and systems shaping the conditions of daily life. These forces and systems include economic policies and systems, development agendas, social norms, social policies, and political systems.
1. Thoroughly explain each of the following types of determinants of health:
Biological
Psychological
Environmental
Sociocultural
Behavioral
Health System Determinants
2. Discuss why it is important for nurses to understand these determinants of health for their patients. Please provide examples.
3. Asking your patients the right questions about factors that affect their lives can shape more effective nursing interventions to improve patient outcomes. Choose two of the determinants of health and discuss how nurses can advocate for their patients. Include the types of questions you would ask and explain why.
