1.What is the population affected?
* The population being affected are preterm neonates born before 32 weeks gestation and less than 2000 grams
2.What is the intervention of therapy of interest?
* These interventions are performed in the 1st 72 hours of life: Touch times every 6 hours, all duties should be performed during touch times (diaper changes, labs, x-rays, repositioning, etc.), no skin to skin with mothers, keep head and body neutral midline position, perform assessments slow when moving neonate, keep head of bed elevated, limit oral and in-line suctioning , avoid IV boluses, No sodium bicarb or vasopressors
3.With what intervention is being compared?
* All the interventions are being compared against its opposite. If we don’t perform these interventions will the neonate have a greater change of developing IVH.
4.What is the outcomes in which you are interested?
* All outcomes are important in the development of IVH. Intraventricular hemorrhage according to Langley et al (2022) ” The pathogenesis of GMH–IVH is unclear, it is likely related to hemodynamic changes and fluctuations in cerebral blood flow within a fragile developing brain” (p.1).
5.Why is your research question important for your place of employment?
* We often get neonates born during this critical time being a level 3 NICU. We need to know if the care we are providing is leading to neonates developing this brain bleed or if the interventions we have in place are helping to prevent them.
6.Do you foresee any ethical dilemmas with your research? What are potential ethical dilemmas to consider?
*No. I don’t see any ethical dilemmas in the research, because no neonates are being harmed during this evaluation period. Potential ethical dilemmas to consider is if a neonate does develop IVH during this period, could it be from a nurse causing it?
PICO question- In neonates born before 32 weeks and less than 2000 grams (P)are providing these list of interventions we perform at work(I) do they help in the likely-hood of decreasing IVH(O) or aid in the development (C).
