Overview
A Windshield Survey is a collection of subjective personal observations on what you see and

this windshield survey, you will tour the city, record your observations, and submit a written
response that addresses the specific items listed. In this assignment, learners will evaluate the

slowest speed and stay on the bus the entire time.
2. Learners may survey all four Sentinel City® neighborhoods or one specifically assigned
Sentinel City® neighborhood. Sentinel City® neighborhoods include:

3. As you take the tour, write down your observations, specifically those that align with the
following demographics and/or subsystems.
4. Describe the characteristics of the people you see in Sentinel City®.
a. What is the race/ethnicity distribution, age ranges, and gender mix?
b. Are there signs of poverty or wealth? What are they?
c. Is the area well maintained or in disrepair?
d. Who do you see on the streets? Parent with a child, teens, couples, disabled
persons?
e. Is there anyone in the city you would not expect to see?
f. Are there homeless persons, beggars, etc.?
g. Are the dogs on or off-leash? Are there other animals?
h. What are stores (grocery, retail, drug, dry cleaning, etc.) in the area?
i. How do residents travel?
j. What services are available in the community – health care, social services, schools,
employment offices, etc.?
k. What types of occupations are evident?
l. Are there churches, and what are their denominations?
5. Select a target population of interest and discuss relevant demographic data and health
status indicators for this population group.
6. Identify significant health concerns for this target population. Include a discussion of
significant health concerns in relation to a global health issue.
7. Apply Healthy People 2030 objectives to the identified population health concerns.
8. You are encouraged to add other relevant characteristics you observe.
9. After your tour is complete, compile your observations and present the information,
with at least two scholarly references, addressing each item listed above.
10. Use correct APA format when citing your references that support your rationale.
