Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is to provide an opportunity to explore the development of a PICOT question as a foundation for evidence-based practice.
Course Outcomes
This assignment enables the student to meet the following course outcomes:
CO 1: Examine the role of research and evidence from nursing and related fields in advancing healthcare outcomes and equity. (POs 4, 5)
CO 4: Apply evidence-based models to enhance advanced nursing practice. (POs 4, 5)
CO 5: Develop professional competencies in scientific inquiry and translating scholarship into practice. (POs 4, 5)
Due Date
Submit the PICOT Worksheet to the Dropbox by 11:59 p.m. MT Sunday at the end of Week 2.
Students are expected to submit assignments by the time they are due. Assignments submitted after the due date and time will receive a deduction of 10% of the total points possible for that assignment for each day the assignment is late. Assignments will be accepted, with a penalty as described, up to a maximum of three days late, after which point a zero will be recorded for the assignment. Quizzes and discussions are not considered assignments and are not part of the late assignment policy.

Use of the template is required. A 10% deduction will be applied if the template is not used. See the rubric.
Follow APA grammar, spelling, word usage, and punctuation rules consistent with formal, scholarly writing.
Provide resources from at least three scholarly resources. Include in-text citations in APA format when applicable.
Abide by Chamberlain University’s academic integrity policy.
Include the following sections (detailed criteria listed below and in the grading rubric).
Practice Problem
Using the practice problem identified in the Week 1 discussion, summarize your practice problem in 2-3 sentences.
Explain why the issue/concern is important to nurse practitioner practice.
Provide at least one in-text citation from a scholarly source.
PICOT Components: Discuss each of the following PICOT components in one or two sentences:
P-Population: What is the nursing practice concern or problem, and whom does it affect? Be specific and narrow down your population. The population should be client-focused.
I–Intervention: What evidence-based solution for the problem would you like to apply?
C–Comparison: What is another solution for the problem? This is typically the current practice, an alternative solution, or no intervention.
O–Outcome: How will you know the intervention worked? How you will measure the outcome? The outcome must be measurable from a baseline.
T–Timeframe: What is the timeframe or the target completion date?
