Pick one piece from an MPB composer and write a short essay (2 to 3 pages – minimum of 700 words; text font 12, 1.5 spacing) about the importance of the composer and the chosen piece in the historical context of its times. Make sure to include the recording info you chose (I suggest you use one with the composer).
*Research and comment on where it and its composer(s)/lyricist/performer/arranger may fit in the greater historical context at the time of its composition or recording, as well as the musical era, genre, ensemble type, geographic region, or any particular style it represents. Comment on the structural traits in the music – melody, lyrics, harmony, form, groove, arrangement – that catch your attention, especially if they might be relevant to your overall discussion*
Please ensure that all sources used for research are properly credited, either through basic footnotes/endnotes or by citing the reference authors directly in the text, especially when using specific quotations.
Use sources beyond class slides, including at least one scholarly text. Diversify your research.

For written music examples, do one of the following:
write the music by hand on staff paper, take a picture.
after writing the music in Finale or Sibelius, hold Command-Shift-4, and select the portion of the music you want by dragging your finger/mouse. By default, pictures get stored in the Desktop.
