Philosophy is not just the ideas of a bunch of old, dead white guys. The philosophical questions posed in Chapter 1 reveal things about which we are all interested or may have wondered.
Choose two of the questions posed in Chapter 1 (under the “Opening Questions” section) that you find interesting and relevant, and respond to the following:
1. Explain how you might respond to the two questions, and
2. Explain your response to the explanation given in the textbook to each of the questions you chose. What do you think about those responses?
Pick two of the “Life As . . .” readings from Chapter 2 (under the “The Meaning of Life” heading) and explain how you see them working together to create a fulfilled life. Don’t answer based on what you think the “right” answer is; rather, respond with your own primary interests in mind.
Evaluate two responses to “The Problem of Evil” topic presented in Chapter 3. Do you think either or both of the responses overcome(s) some particular component of “The Problem of Evil” as it is articulated in the chapter? If so, which component(s) is overcome and how? Be as clear as possible.
Compare and/or contrast the views of Descartes, Spinoza, and Liebnitz on the relation of mind to matter. Pick the one whom you think has it about right and describe your own view of the mind using that philosopher’s model.
