Phase I
Purpose: This activity explores the topics of EQUALITY, EQUITY & JUSTICE. These three terms show up often in your readings/videos as well as in public debates/discussions about education and official education policies and laws. Developing a clear and accurate understanding of the differences between the three can not only help you to assess policies & practices inside/outside of schools, but also help you to develop your own practices (no matter what field you plan to enter) that are more clearly/firmly rooted in meeting the goals of each. Additionally, we will be learning about the pros and cons of using ChatGPT (and other generative AI sites).
Indeed, the use of ChatGPT in the educational realm has been a controversial debate – with some finding it, and other AI programs, highly disruptive in learning processes and outcomes. Thus, the main purpose of this assignment is to reflect on the major implications of this artificial intelligence technology while exploring a central concept to this course: equality vs. equity vs. justice.

Then, copy and paste the following prompt into ChatGPT: Act as a college student writing a reflection for an undergraduate level course. I want you to prepare a one to two paragraph response explaining difference between equality, equity, and justice. Then, identify a commonly-experienced issue or problem in schools and provide three solutions: one that is rooted in equality, one in equity, and one in achieving justice.

Then, in an additional 1-2 paragraph reflection,
discuss the advantages and weaknesses of the ChatGPT-generated response provided by the AI tool guided by answering ALL THREE of the questions below. Please, provide details and examples from the ChatGPT created response to support your arguments.
1. In your opinion, did the response from ChatGPT feel human or could you immediately identify it as a robot-generated response? Explain.
2. Reflecting on the information you added in blue text, do you think ChatGPT enhanced your learning process, creativity and productivity or limited your learning and boxed you in creatively, hindering your productivity?
3. Finally, share your overall perspective on the potential impacts of ChatGPT on education. Many point to its potential to transform education while others note the negative impact it’s had on academic integrity.
