Phase III (for application of Module III topics) will be due Friday, April 19th

April 23, 2024

Phase III (for application of Module III topics) will be due Friday, April 19th
at 11:59 pm. Note that the only item
to submit as a group (the expectation is that all students contribute evenly, where applicable) will be the
narrative regardless if working in groups or individually. I have provided an outline of the contents to include
below. A “new” narrative should be submitted. Application of at least two (2) topics/concepts/themes AND one
(1) theory (it is required in this phase) will be required.
Late submissions will incur -2 points per calendar day late but will not be reviewed after 4 calendar days late –
Only 1 student in the group submits the assignment. When submitting the narrative, please type each student’s
name and contribution in the assignment submission text box (see the screenshot on page 2).
This last assignment related to content modules and the movie project only requires the narrative NOT the PowerPoint.
The narrative should be about 2 – 3 pages long, double-spaced, and follow the proper APA-writing style conventions.
1. Module III Chapters 6, 7, 8, & 9 Cognition and Personality in Aging – Suggestions for Topics/Theories
• Identify 2 topics/concepts/themes AND a theory in this module depicted in the movie. Topics that may be
covered in this assignment include a discussion on the character’s attention and memory, including memory in
context, and their self-evaluations of memory abilities. Were there factors that preserved (or negatively
affected) the character’s memory abilities? Is the depiction of cognitive abilities realistic?
• You may be able to apply Piaget’s theory of cognitive development or post-formal thinking. Explore the
decision-making capacities (self-perceived may differ from actual). Analyze if creativity or wisdom is conveyed
(accurately or not?). Is “expertise” portrayed, and if so, how?
• Finally, Personality was also discussed. Theories such as Erikson’s Psychosocial Theory can be applied. Other
themes discussed related to this include life concerns, life narratives, and dispositional traits.
• Before applying, consider how any of the above helped shape the character’s development. Is the portrayal
consistent with what you learned about in this course?
A. Narrative (about 2- double-spaced pages) in APA style of formatting, citing, and referencing (title page is not
necessary)
1. Use Paragraphs to Differentiate Each Section
• Provide one paragraph addressing the summary of the movie (modify Phase I and II, do not cut and paste), the
character(s) to be explored, and explaining why this movie is relevant to the course. Include a purpose
statement identifying the terms and theory the group will be addressing in the narrative. Use BOLD font for
these terms to emphasize.
• Provide as many paragraphs as necessary to apply the topics/concepts/themes and theory(ies).
o “Application” means that the student will define, and identify how the each is depicted in the movie
• Provide an analysis of the portrayal of the topics/concepts/themes and theories by comparing these to
developmental research on older adults. (e.g., Does the portrayal reflect the research? Find/include
corroborating sources or those that contradict the message portrayed.) You may also include this evaluation in
the text paragraph above, but please do not merge all this section together. For example, do not analyze each
topic and theory in the same paragraph. Be organized and use “transition” statements whenever possible. Here
is a resource for students: https://libguides.uta.edu/apa/writing_style
2. References page
• Rubric requirements suggest a minimum of 4 which include:
o The textbook, e-book
2
o The movie [i.e., the Director(s)]
o 2 outside research-based/empirical sources
o Websites are allowed but do not count as “reputable” sources
