Academic Argumentative Essay
For your second essay assignment in this class, your challenge is to write an academic essay (2200 – 2500 words, double spaced) in which you make a persuasive argument about an issue/controversy related to technics and the modern life. For the purposes of this course, an academic argument is a genre addressing a professional, scholarly, or school audience that forwards a clear and compelling point that is supported by cited research and evidence and crafted according to certain conventions. The specific purpose of your essay is not to win a debate or even convince readers that some point you want to make is right or correct. Rather, your goal is to craft an argument that persuades your reader to consider your point of view.
NUTS AND BOLTS OF THE ASSIGNMENT
AUDIENCE: Your audience for your academic essay is a professional, scholarly, or school audience. When writing for this audience, you need to keep in mind this audience’s governing assumptions, ethical concerns, biases, already established opinions, etc. and make rhetorical choices accordingly.
PURPOSE: Your objective with this assignment is to a.) perform deep research into a current issue with exigence related to techincs; b.) choose an argumentative and linguistic approach that is best suited for your rhetorical purpose; and c.) and forward a well-reasoned and supported point. Your academic essay should be persuasive, moving readers to consider your point of view.
LOGISTICAL GUIDELINES:
— 2200 – 2500 words, double spaced
— Incorporate and synthesize no less than eight sources into your essay. This source work requires secondary research as documented in your annotated bibliography. At least three of them must be academic sources.
