Peer response
(Discussion Prompt 6.1)
Scheduling practices in an organization are very crucial for all employees. When preparing for an interview, knowing the scheduling practices that align with one’s preferences is critical. My preferred work schedule involves clear expectations, vacation/sick time, and flexible working hours which prevent nurse burnout (Ongaki, 2019). There should be paid time off, also known as PTO. Some scheduling practices such as difficult work hours, unpaid overtime, and restrictive leave policies may force me to deny a job offer and look elsewhere. There are various essential questions to ask in an interview concerning the organization. It is important to know whether there is professional development, how often they ask nurses for overtime work, and how they support work-life balance for their employees.
Moreover, knowing the best scheduling patterns and practices that align with my values and are most pleasing can help me secure a more suitable job. I will join an organization with my prioritized scheduling practices over an organization that is unable to meet my needs. Also, asking questions in an interview will allow the organization to make clear its responsibilities and expectations, allowing me to choose whether it is the best-suited organization for me. Knowing my life, and understanding how an organization will ensure a work-life balance will enable me to choose the perfect organization for both my professional and personal needs. Knowledge of the organization’s expectations on overtime work and how that overtime is paid is crucial in selecting the best organization to work for.
