Part II: (There are two parts to part II of your research project) You will provide an annotated bibliography and a detailed literature review of your chosen topic. The literature review will be centered upon the sources from your annotated bibliography.
Once you have chosen your topic and obtained previous studies on that topic, you will construct an annotated bibliography, which is a brief summarization of the empirical research.
(*I already created my annontated bibliogrpahy, I have uploaded so you can view it as a reference*)
The literature review should consist of an introduction to your topic, a review of prior research and a conclusion section which sums up the current state of the issue relative to the research findings you discussed.
What this section of the paper should not be is a topical summary of an issue. By this I mean you should not turn in a paper which describes what community policing is. If your topic is community policing, the literature review should focus on, for example, the effectiveness of foot patrol in reducing nuisance crimes or whether community policing reduces citizen fear. Turning in a topical summary will most likely result in a failing grade for the entire paper.
There is no requirement on how many empirical studies you should include in your paper. Obviously reviewing 5 studies is better than looking at just one, but the quality of your writing and how well you interpret the research is also very important. Typically, the best literature reviews look at between 5 and 10 studies, but this is just a guideline not a rule.
I need 8 pages for part ll (the literature review).
Part III: For the final portion of the paper, you will write a research proposal to analyze the topic you chose for your literature review. Please keep in mind that you do not actually have to perform the research, rather you are outlining how you would undertake the project if you were to perform the research. So, for example, if your study were to include a survey of 500 residents of a city, you would not have to actually survey these 500 residents, you would simply have to explain how those 500 would be selected.
A good strategy is to adapt methodologies used in prior research to a context you are familiar with. For instance, if you were to study the relationship between arresting domestic violence offenders and recidivism, you may use the Minneapolis Domestic Violence Experiment (and later replications) as a model, and then set up a proposed study in your hometown or another locale you are familiar with.
The proposed study should follow the steps of research design that we study during the course and fully detail components such as: conceptualization/operationalization, research setting, sampling strategy, data collection methodology, and so on. A discussion of potential validity threats and ethical considerations should be included as well.
The purpose of this project is to give students an idea of the processes involved in scientifically studying issues in criminology and how ‘true science’ differs from information obtained through invalid methods. As will be demonstrated, much information is disseminated to the public based on poor research methods or anecdotal evidence, and such information is more readily available for consumption because it is far easier to do ‘nonscience’ than it is to use rigorous scientific methods.
All information in your paper that comes from another source MUST be cited in a reference list and all sources listed in your reference list must be cited. In other words, in-text citations and reference lists must match!
I need 12 pages for part lll (the reserach proposal paper)
I have also uploaded a sample of a literature review and the research proposal paper.
