Part A: Using clay, water colors, colored pencils, pastels, fabrics, paper mache’, yarn, and/or other art medium of your choice, create a piece that represents the human condition as you have come to understand and experience it in this course. You may also choose to do an original performance e.g. dance, music, theater, or poetry that you personally author and create. You or a helper can film you in performance. Your piece (regardless if it created or performed) should be an original work that arises out of your own creativity in understanding and expressing your deep sense of the human condition.
Note: This assignment is not about your level of artistic talent. It is about how you synthesize key learnings/topics presented throughout the course. Therefore no personal judgements permitted. Let your piece emanate from your heart, and trust that it is perfect and “right.” There is no wrong way to do this HIP – except not to attempt it altogether.
Part B: In an 8 to 10 PowerPoint slide deck using bullet points written with correct punctuation, spelling, and grammar, and incorporating concepts of good PowerPoint design, do the following:
On slide # 1 include your name, full course title, and the assignment due date. Take a picture of your piece and insert the picture into slide # 1 of your PowerPoint deck. If you created a performance, embed your video into slide #1.
Give your piece a name that reflects the representation of the human condition as you have come to understand it during this course.
Describe your thought process – how did you arrive at creating your piece? How does your piece relate to the concepts we explored throughout the course?
What about your piece speaks to the human condition?
What are three key learnings/insights in terms of humanities and the human condition that you are taking away as a result of completing this HIP? Your learnings should be drawn directly from the course textbook, the videos, and the articles you read and watched during the course.
Within your PowerPoint, include three APA in-text citations drawn from the course textbook, videos, or articles assigned during the course that embody /support your understanding/perspective of the human condition. Please do not include any other resources i.e. articles, or books from any other courses taken during your RN to BSN program. APA resources should be exclusively from the HUM 490 course.
The last slide of the PowerPoint should be a Reference slide in which you do APA references (7th edition) for the three in-slide references you included in the PowerPoint.
Incorporate the tenants of good PowerPoint design in terms of consistent font use, clean lay-out, and the use of color to promote engagement.
** Review and use the rubric below for completing this assignment.
NOTE: Be mindful about this project being the “culminating project” for the course. Therefore, it should demonstrate your understanding and synthesis of ALL the major themes we have explored in the course vs. focusing on one single theme such as just burnout or resilience, or self-care. Approach the project holistically – representing your overall learning and understanding.
Please use the chapters attached for the citations/resources.
