Part 2: Initial Draft
Objective:
Expand upon your initial thesis, introduction, and outline to create a preliminary draft of your argument.
Instructions:
1. Introduction: Refine your introduction to clearly state your thesis and provide a brief overview of your argument’s structure.
2. Body: Begin to develop the body of your argument by tentatively presenting evidence and arguments in support of your thesis. This should include:
Exploratory Examination: An initial exploration of the philosophical issue(s) you’ve chosen. This is a starting point for deeper investigation to come in Part 3.
Preliminary Analysis: A tentative analysis of the philosophers or schools of thought that most and least resemble your views. This is an opportunity to start engaging with the thinkers relevant to your argument.
Objections and Replies: Start considering at least one counterargument or rebuttal to your thesis, along with your initial thoughts on a response. This section will help you begin to think critically about potential challenges to your argument.
3. Working List of Sources: Compile an informal list of sources that you are using to support your argument. At this stage, include course materials, books, academic articles, etc., that you have started to explore. This list is expected to grow as your research deepens.
Submission:
Submit your introduction, body (with preliminary evidence and arguments, including an initial consideration of objections and replies), and working list of sources for grading and feedback. No conclusion is required at this stage. This draft marks the beginning of your serious research and thinking, setting the stage for a more in-depth examination and argumentation in Part 3.

The Impact of Technology on Human Relationships: Investigate technology’s redefinition of human connections and interpersonal relationships. Looking at Heidegger’s concept of being-in-the-world and Levinas’s ethics of “the Other” would be an excellent way to approach an analysis of technology’s effects, from social media to AI, redefine human connection on intimacy and community.
