Objective:
STEP 1
Select a minority group to research: ethnicity, gender, age, disability, religion, sexual identity, economic or immigration status.
Research topics should idealistically focus on a minority group within the United States but it can compare and contrast how those minorities are treated in other countries as well.
You may use more than one chapter or textbook to conduct your research, this may include lessons and readings from this course’s modules.
Your Midterm paper should relate to the protest signs you will make in part 2 of your Midterm.
Your midterm paper should be detailed, informative, educational, and concise, using only factual data, evidence, and/or statistics relevant to the topic.
Your summary should identify facts on how your minority group has experienced both prejudice and discrimination, using examples from the past and present in order to understand their total discrimination.
Identify how they managed to endure these issues and have become empowered as a people or minority group.
Make sure to include name of important people, organizations, and/or movements that helped overcome these obstacles.
Obtain the facts from the assigned article, film, or from designated or relevant chapter/s of your required readings

Apply at least 5 – 10 key terms to help diagnose or identify the types of prejudices and discrimination associated/ related to the assignment topic.

STEP 2
Summary Papers:
The objective is to separate Fact from Opinion. “Include only the Facts: names of people or groups, key terms or definitions used, dates, places, events, results of outcomes, data collected from graphs, tables, or charts. It shouldn’t include the instructor’s, the author’s, or your own personal opinion about the subject matter.
Word Count Requirement: Write a Summary paper between 900 to 1000 words or more.
Students are required to abide by the rubric criteria.
Your Summary should be a detail intellectual description about your topic, using only factual data, evidence, and/or statistics relevant to the topic.
Obtain the facts from the assigned article, film, or from designated or relevant chapter/s of your required readings or online resources from in the campus online Library Database.
Apply the Key terms from either the required and recommended readings to help diagnose or identify the types of prejudices and discrimination associated/ related to the assignment topic.
Students may also use their notes or data/materials used during the course lectures, Canvas pages, discussions, and assignments to obtain facts to complete this assignment.
(-5 to -10) Points deducted if your Summary doesn’t meet the word count required

Research and include 3 images related to your Midterm topic within the same Word or PDF Document
Write a caption for each image; 1 to 2 sentences, describing each image. tables, or graphic.
You may also screenshots images from the article or documentary you watched
Place the caption below the image.
(-5) Points will be deducted if your images or captions are not included.
STEP 4
Reflection-Analysis Paper:
Your reflection paper is where you will intellectually analyze and deconstruct the content and/or context, where you will decolonize your critical thinking skills and where you will provide your feeling, thoughts, and opinion/s about the material. Students’ reflection paper should address the following points listed below:
Word Count Requirement: Write a Reflection analysis paper between 600 to 800 words or more.
Students are required to abide by the rubric criteria.
Identify at least three to five things you learned while completing this assignment and how did this further your knowledge about the minority group you researched?
Students will explain, describe, identify, and/or translate what s/he/ or they understood, thought, felt, liked, or disliked about the content and context.
Describe how this assignment was relevant to Introduction to Ethnic Studies?
Consider diagnosing and/or deconstructing the type of prejudice and/or discrimination you researched, using some of your key terms.
(-5 to -10) points will be deducted if your reflection doesn’t meet the word count requirement.
(-20) points will be deducted if your reflection analysis is not included within your midterm.
STEP 4
Work Cited or Bibliography Page:
Cite your sources, illustrations and images in MLA format.
Cited the textbook and chapter you used to conduct your research
(-5) points will be deducted if you Work Cited page is missing.
