Overview
This is the first of three course assignments. This week you will select a topic related to families in a global context and prepare a short annotated bibliography. In later assignments you will expand that bibliography into a literature review, and then write a critical analysis of the topic based upon your review of the literature.
Preparation
If you have not yet done so, complete the Week 5 Prepare: Topic Selection and Annotated Bibliography activities. Then review the Advanced Studies in Human Behavior Ph.D. Library GuideLinks to an external site. for guidance on conducting research in the Capella University Library.
Instructions
This assignment has two parts.
Part 1: Topic Description
Select a topic from one of the following issues related to families in a global context:
Family violence.
Immigration and migration.
Refugee health and wellness.
Family stressors and crisis.
Health policy.
Family resource allocation.
Cultural diversity, and prevention.
Prevention and intervention.
Use current literature to inform your selection. This topic will be the focus of the literature review you will critically analyze for your Week 9 assignment. The literature review will result in a clearer understanding and refined definition of your topic.
In a few brief paragraphs, identify your topic and explain, with at least three supporting sources, how current family science literature provides a rationale for its selection.
Part 2: Annotated Bibliography
As you review the scholarly research relevant to the topic you have selected, develop an annotated bibliography to organize your sources. The Annotated Bibliography guide can help you with this part of the assignment.
In your annotated bibliography, include the following for each source, as applicable:
Source
Article or book citation.
Link (URL) for the source.
Verify that the source is peer-reviewed.
Study
Research method used in the study.
Measurement of test used in the study.
Findings
Major findings
Other findings of interest.
Questions you have.
Gaps or ideas for additional research suggested by the source.
Other notes.
You are encouraged to continue using your annotated bibliography to organize any additional articles you find to complete the assignments in this course.
Submission Requirements
To successfully complete this assignment, your assignment must meet the following requirements:
Written communication: Written communication is professional, scholarly, and free from errors that detract from the overall message.
Length: Minimum of 5 double-spaced, typed pages, excluding the title page and reference page.
Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point.
Resources: Support your findings with a minimum of 8 peer-reviewed, scholarly journal references, primarily journal articles published within the last 5 years. You may include up to two authored chapters in edited, scholarly books. Textbooks do not fulfill this requirement. See How Do I Find Peer-Reviewed Articles? for help.
