Overview
In Section II, we turn to a different issue: How do we design and conduct studies to elucidate the etiology of and risk factors for human disease? Requirements
Using the guiding questions above, create an observational study of your choice on a disease that impacts a community relevant to you with a process of prevention using what has been learned in chapters 6-10. You will need to complete each part below to earn a full score. Each section is worth 50 points for a total of 100 points.
Part I (Ideally complete this in week 1)
1- Two pages with
a. Brief description of the community
b. A description of the observational study and a method you will use to collect information (Use chapter 7)
c. Describe the disease process (feel free to use statistical data and or charts):
i. Include how the disease should be studied with a brief timeline of how to observe the symptoms and the process humans undergo before and after infection. You only have to describe a typical year nothing beyond that. Going further is your choice.
Part II (Ideally completed in week 2)
d. In two to three pages
i. Briefly describe the etiology of the selected disease and risk factors
ii. outline a treatment and trial process for selection.
iii. Once you have decided on the best method/s of treatment select one you will test and conclude with how you will prevent the disease in detail.
