Overview:
I was tasked with writing a three-page paper on a topic related to corporate finance. The paper should be double-spaced with normal margins, Times New Roman, and 12-point font size, and it should include a cover page and a page for references.
Topic Selection:
Choose a topic related to corporate finance that impacts corporations generally. Examples include Leveraged Buyouts (LBOs), mergers and acquisitions (M&A), the Initial Public Offering (IPO) market, credit swap derivatives, bond market trends, interest rate forecasts, etc. The topic should be broad enough to affect all companies or a specific industry.
I have opted for the following topic: the Initial Public Offering (IPO) market dynamics
Research Method:
Find one substantial article from a reputable business publication (e.g., Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, Fortune, Forbes, Financial Times, Business Week, etc.). Then, use the library’s online resources to find two more recent articles on the same topic.
Each week, my teacher provided us with articles from various business publications. One of the three required articles must be from those provided. The ones I believe to be most related to the chosen topic are:
The $900,000 Tomes That No One Really Wants to Read” By Corrie Driebusch
This article delves into the process of preparing IPO prospectuses, which are essential documents for companies going public. It provides insights into the challenges and costs associated with IPOs, highlighting the efforts companies make to attract investors and navigate regulatory requirements. Understanding the IPO documentation process is crucial for comprehending the dynamics of the IPO market.)
“Disney, Bob Iger Defeat Activist Nelson Peltz in Shareholder Vote” By Robbie Whelan
Although this article primarily focuses on a specific corporate event involving Disney and activist investor Nelson Peltz, it touches upon broader themes related to corporate governance and shareholder activism, which can impact the IPO market. Shareholder activism can influence company decisions regarding IPOs, capital structure, and strategic direction, making it relevant to understanding IPO market dynamics.
Macy’s Adds Two Directors Backed by Investor to Its Board” By Suzanne Kapner
Similar to Article 30, this article highlights corporate governance issues and shareholder influence, albeit in the context of Macy’s adding new directors to its board. Changes in board composition and corporate governance practices can signal shifts in corporate strategy and decision-making, which may affect companies’ decisions to go public or remain private.
These are just my recommendations. My professor provided over 32 articles so I will provide that full list and links for you to choose. As previosuly stated the other two articles should be scholalry articles, which can be found a multitude of ways (ex. JSTOR). Though it implies that only one of the articles should be from a business publication (either from the list or found online), iI don’t think my professor will mind if 2 articles from business publciations are used so long as the 2 scholarly article source are still there (for a total of 4 sources, of course, the minimum is 3 sources)
Writing Approach:
Synthesize the information from the three articles into a cohesive analysis in your paper. Summarize and analyze the content, providing insights into the topic. Remember to cite any direct quotes used and include copies of the articles attached to your paper.
Submission Requirements:
Submit the paper printed single-sided, with a cover page and a page for references. Attach copies of the three articles used, along with a bibliography listing your citations.
