• Overview of social media, including its definition, general statistics on usage in the United States., and common effects on online and offline behaviors

• Overview of social media usage across generations

• In-depth guide on social media usage and best practices based on the selection of one developmental stage

• Best practices for maximizing benefits and minimizing risks, including recommendations for how social media can help to address real-world issues for that particular stage, as well as areas of particular concern for the selected group that should be identified as behaviors to avoid

Week 2: Social Media Overview and Selection of Developmental Stage Select a developmental stage from the following list to be the focus of your best practices guide:

• Adolescence (ages 12–19) Reference your definition of social media from the Week 1 assignment, as well as the particular social media channels commonly used by this age group. Research and discuss the general developmental psychology characteristics of your selected group, as well as the top 2 to 3 social media channels this group has been documented to use with the greatest frequency.
