Overview of Assignment
The risk management assessment will allow you to apply the Sport Decision Risk Management Model to a real-life KIN-related setting in which you have a particular interest. Your assessment will take the form of a consulting report and should be something you would provide to the organization/facility you assessed or you might bring to show a potential employer in an interview-type setting. If you have any questions about choosing a site for your assessment project, particularly non-traditional sites, seek guidance from the instructor.
Formatting
Consulting reports such as this should be professional in nature, use headings where appropriate, use 12-point font, and be single-spaced throughout. Citations should follow APA style, and a reference page should be included at the end of the report.
Structure
Your report should be structured as follows:
Title Page (should include organization name and student name)  This need not be an APA style cover.  A nice image of the facility or image associated with it and your name, and a description of the report is fine.

Facility Background– should address issues such as those below (1 pages)
Which KIN organization is this report focusing on? Which area of the facility is being assessed?
Provide a brief history of organization/facility with relevant citations and references
What does the organization do?
What is the facility used for?
Who uses the facility? rents the facility?
Industry Research – a minimum of 3 outside resources should be cited within this section, including one peer-reviewed source from an academic journal (2-3 pages) w APA style references and citations.
Define and describe the sector of the industry your facility is a part of (e.g. a fitness center would be a part of the fitness industry, hospital rehabilitation center a clinical exercise facility, etc.)
Describe two cases or settlements related to risk management or mitigation in this industry (premises, equipment, personnel, supervision, or documentation).
Define and describe any current trends, issues, or relevant policies or policy changes, that someone managing this type of facility must be aware of in order to mitigate risk.
Include special guidance that has been issued by the Centers for Disease Control, as well as addressing the state and county’s mandates or factors that ought to be considered between now and the end of the term related to mitigation of infectious conditions like Covid-19, RSV, and influenza. Consider this source for specific guidance related to COVID-19. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html
Risks – for each risk identified (minimum of eight for passing grade) address and explain the following steps in the Sport Decision Risk Management Model (page length will vary depending on # of risks identified, but students should provide thorough and complete information for each risk):
Section 1 Recognition – Briefly discuss your assessment of the facility’s general level of recognition or acceptance of the risk management process. Do the employees seem to be well aware of risk management procedures? Is there general support from management to provide resources (time/money) to managing risk? Be sure to explain your reasoning.  This is a great reason to talk with people at the organization.
Section 2 Analysis & Action
For each risk perform the following:
Identify and describe risks and place it within a category.Try to identify risks in ALL five categories that were discussed in class. Don’t focus simply on obvious risks with equipment or premises liability.
Evaluate the risk in terms of both the frequency the risk might occur and the severity of the risk in terms of injury and/or loss – utilize the scale(s) from the lecture notes (remember to consider the history of the facility and the current trends/legal issues in the industry when evaluating risk).
Action – Recommend possible methods of action for each risk: retain, treat, transfer, eliminate. Consider the current financial status and culture of an organization when determining methods of action.
*Please perform these on one risk at a time.  Do not tell me about all the risks in one paragraph, then all of the assessments, then all of the actions.  Keep it simple for your reader and check out the sample.
Summary Matrix – include all of your risks as per the examples in the PowerPoint notes on risk management. Be sure to properly label the matrix.
Severe
Moderate
Slight
Frequent
Occasional
Rare
Conclusion – should address issues such as those below (1-2 pages)
Summarize your findings, focusing on overall thoughts as well as important issues and concerns; some questions to consider: is this facility doing a good job of managing risk? A poor job? Based on your risk evaluation and summary matrix, which specific risks should the facility prioritize treatment methods for first?  Briefly outline the suggestions you would make to a corporate entity.  If you could grade the facility in terms of the ability to manage risk, what letter grade would you give them?
Appendix – include supplementary materials such as organization/facility brochures, waivers, facility diagrams, accident report forms, emergency plans, or photos that you have obtained during your assessment.
This paper will be evaluated for thoroughness/detail and creativity in identifying risks, assessing their frequency and severity, and planning risk reduction strategies for those risks identified, as well as for careful and effective written presentation.  The final project should be a professional document that you could (but are not required to) provide to the organization/ facility you assessed in the assignment or actually use when you get a job in KIN-related settings.
