Wine Tour One
Region: Willamette Valley in Oregon, touring Black-owned wineries in the Willamette Valley, and Black-owned wineries in Portland and Astoria that use grapes from the Willamette Valley to produce their wines.
Target Audience: Wine consumers interested in social justice who have a desire to tour and support wineries owned by minorities and people of color.
Learning Objectives: The wine industry lacks diversity among owners of vineyards and wineries. In the United States, only about 1% of wineries are Black-owned and these wineries often lack visibility. The goal of this wine tour in the Willamette Valley wine region is to bring attention to wineries that are owned by minority groups of people and discuss how they have trouble gaining recognition and what can be done to bring more diversity, education, and inclusion to the wine-making industry. The hope is that after people take this wine tour, they will help support and bring recognition to minority-owned wineries. The other goal of this wine tour is to highlight the importance of diversity in the wine industry and how social justice impacts the success of minority-owned wineries. On this tour, I want to show people how diversity in wineries brings new ideas to the wine industry and contributes to the broader wine culture through unique perspectives and practices. I want people on this tour to leave with a sense of the importance of supporting and amplifying minority voices in an industry that has been traditionally white industry.

Wine Tour Two (Exceeding)
Region: Napa Valley in California
Target Audience: Wine consumers interested in social justice who have a desire to tour and support wineries owned by minorities and people of color.
Learning Objectives: The tour will then go to explore minority-owned wineries in Napa Valley with the same social justice goals as above. We will compare the visibility of the Napa Valley wineries as compared to the ones in Willamette Valley. We will also look at how the importance of diversity is highlighted at these wineries and the challenges they have faced carving out a niche in this premier wine region. The goal is that people on the wine tour see minority-owned wineries in two different regions and understand the insightful ideas that they bring to the industry and add to the culture of wine. We want people to be able to support and build up the visibility of minority wine owners with the end goal of increasing the number of minority-owned wineries in the United States to more accurately represent the diversity of our country.
