Of the three contemporary theorists that we covered in the second part of the
course, namely Parsons, Foucault and Habermas, who do you is the most
instructive and helpful for the actual conduct of social life? And, as corollary to this
question, what should be expected of a sociological theorist in guiding the domain
of social practices?
In responding to these interrelated questions, discuss intelligently and in details
the guiding theoretical ideas of the theorist of your choice— among Parsons,
Foucault, and Habermas— and the implications of these ideas for the practical
conducts of social life. You can use empirical example(s) from your personal or
professional experiences, or you can discuss example(s) that may be of general
societal concerns. Bearing in mind that this is an exercise in theoretical reasons, it
is specifically the interface of theory and practice that you are being asked to
explore. To what extent has your training in this course strengthened your abilities
and sensitivities in this regard, is what you need to demonstrate for the purpose
of this final exercise.
