Developing a specific PICOT question is the first step in narrowing down the targeted research problem into a researchable topic. The PICOT question provides the framework for including the variables in the single research question for the study. In my case, the topic that I intend to research is the impact of telehealth in improving postpartum care for mothers and their infants. My research question is founded on the multiple challenges and the possible complexities that can arise when the mother is caring for the infant. The mothers are exposed to risks of infections due to cesarian wounds, over-bleeding, infections, and postpartum depression (Liu et al., 2021). The infants suffer the possible challenge of breastfeeding if the mother does not have relevant training and sudden infant death syndrome. Based on this understanding, there is a need to ensure that follow-ups, monitoring, and postnatal compliance are excellent to guarantee better health outcomes for the child and their mother.
Consequently, I understand that mothers might face challenges meeting all the care needs of the newborn. Thus, there is a need for effective monitoring of the mother and child to ensure that their health outcomes are of high quality and guarantee their safety (Astor et al., 2022). This prompts the suggestion of using telehealth to facilitate effective care for mothers and infants. Based on this, the following research question will be asked:
In mothers with infants in a home setting, how does implementing telehealth for remote monitoring and delivery of maternal education, compared to not using it, affect health outcomes for the mother and infant within six months?

The article, “Effectiveness of Nurse and Midwife-Led Psychological Interventions on Reducing Depression Symptoms in the Perinatal Period,” examines a study involving human subjects. Perinatal depression refers to major and minor depressive episodes that occur either during pregnancy or within one year after delivery. Providing appropriate interventions during perinatal care can mitigate the negative impact of depression on both women and children. Evidence suggests that early detection and preventive interventions are beneficial for managing perinatal depression. This study explores the role of nurses and midwives in helping to mitigate depressive symptoms in these women (Wang et al.,2021).
Participants in the study must be fully informed about its purpose, methods, risks, and benefits. All participants should sign informed consent documents. Additionally, any personal information collected during the study must be kept confidential to respect participants’ privacy. Researchers must also set aside personal biases and judgments, especially given the personal nature of depression, which can sometimes carry a negative stigma. It is important for research to be in compliance with the law and public health and safety. Ethical lapses in research can cause harm to human subjects (Resnik,2020).
