Note: This is a modified assignment. It is not a full essay.
Overview: The Casebook Response assignment practices the SASE critical thinking process. In this assignment, you will apply the critical thinking steps ONE Casebook article. You may use your Annotated Bibliography sources for this assignment (but you are not required to use them—you may find new sources if you like). The 3rd paragraph will be an Evaluation paragraph in which you provide an assessment of your selected casebook article.
Topic: The topic for this essay will focus upon one of the casebook articles found in the Patterns for College Writing Casebook (pages 600+). Choose one of the articles from either Casebook on pages 600+:
“Is Free Speech on Campus in Peril?” or “How Can We Stem the Tide of Gun Violence?”
Thesis: Follow the instructions for the thesis statement provided in the lecture notes. Your thesis should look similar to the example thesis statements provided in the notes.
Author’s argument that (main argument) is (evaluative word) because (reason for your opinion) .
Research: 2 database sources required. Use only TCC Database sources. You may use articles from any database.
Documentation: The last page of the essay should present the Works Cited.
MLA formatting is required for parenthetical citations and works cited.
