You are creating a narrative feature story based on your proposed pitch- that I must approve. Your pitches are due in class on FEBRUARY 21, 2024.

Style is SUPER IMPORTANT HERE. YOUR GOAL IS TO MIMIC THE STYLE OF LITERARY JOURNALISTS YOU’VE READ THIS SEMESTER, and FURTHER — EXPLORE ELEMENTS OF LITERARY JOURNALISM STYLE FOR YOUR NARRATIVES.
WHAT KIND OF FORMAT?
Your choice! Step out of your comfort zone; that’s what you’re used to writing and making.
With each of these, you’re thinking about the big concept and theme that speaks to the current social, political, and cultural moment.
Mini Podcast – Download Spotify for Podcasters (formerly ANCHOR). 5-7 mins. It could be original reporting, an interview or conversation, or narrative and explanatory.
Photo Essay – Download VSCO, Camera+, or use any photo editing app (Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop) to tell a complete topic story with 10-12 images. Looking for inspiration? Here are cool examples: 1 and 2.

For written pieces? Maximum? 1200 Words*. That’s it.
*ABSOLUTE MAXIMUM IF YOU NEED? 1500 WORDS.
SOURCING?
Original reporting is expected to be present in your work—at least two original interview subjects/sources.
Sources should include – an expert source to add context to your Data.
REPORTING PROCESS CHECKLIST AND PRESENTATION:
Your story MUST include:
At least one original interview from a source to provide direct quotes.
Background Information – at least two sources to provide context for your story
Provide other sources you used but did not cite in the final draft in the reporter’s notebook.
Include an editorial photo to compliment your story
An original headline and deck that follows the Feature Writing Template
Follow the Associated Press guidelines
It cannot exceed more than 1200 words MAX. But must be a minimum of 800 words.
