Data base used: Thoreau Multi-Database search.
My Topic: The Covid 19 pandemic increased suicide rates among children and youth
In support of this topic, I went through various databases all of which64rdfdgf6y had advantages and disadvantages. After reviewing the list given in the class resources, I settled for three databases. Thoreau Multi-Database search, PubMed, and Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects (DARE). Among the three I settled for Thoreau Multi-Database search, because it had exceptionally helpful reviews from Walden University students. The advantages of using Thoreau Multi- Database search are numerous. The link opens into multiple data bases and gives a variety of search engines to choose from. The ability to search across multiple databases within the Walden University library is great because it saves students’ time (Walden University, n.d.a). Through Thoreau Multi-Database search, I was able to access EBSCO. EBSCO as a search engine gives the researcher the option of using key words in the topic under investigation and by so doing the results are precise. In my case once I entered the search terms of my topic as “Covid 19 pandemic”, suicide rates” and “among Children”, the search generated several articles for me to choose from.
I would recommend this data base for my colleagues because it has a variety of options and gives high yields in terms of research topics. It also narrows down your search terms. Additionally, one can structure the choices of the type of scholarly articles required. One can format the search to include full articles, peer reviewed and the year of publication of articles. Lastly, Thoreau Data bases allow students to cite articles in the APA 7th edition format which saves time. The journal articles are already formatted with the article and journal title, the volume and issue number plus page numbers (Walden University, n.d.b).
The disadvantage with Thoreau Multi-Database search is it gives a lot of data bases. This can be complicated for first time users as indicated by Walden university (Walden University,2018). Secondly some of the search engines do not have abstracts of the articles. One must read to determine if the articles meet the specifics that you are looking for. Overall, I still believe this is one of the best data base searches for research despite the limitations.
