MY TOPIC: Is There Systemic Racism?
What is systemic racism? How do we identify it?
How do we determine whether a particular population (e.g., whites, blacks, etc.) is faring well or better in society? What factors go into this determination (Economics? Political representation…?)?
Term Paper Rubric
I. Relevance of Topic: Your paper must deal with a topic pertaining to American Government.
10 points will be deducted if your topic doesn’t pertain to American Government.
II. Structure: Your paper must devote a separate, clearly demarcated section to each of the numbered items listed beneath your chosen topic.
Up to 10 points will be deducted if your paper doesn’t consist of appropriately-titled sections.

III. Civility: Your paper must treat both sides in a charitable manner. Avoid personal attacks, profanity, etc.

IV. Citing Sources: For each source, you must provide the author’s name, the article’s title, publication, and the URL on a separate page (i.e., A Works Cited page). Please go by the following example when preparing each source: Turley, K.V. 2018. “Britain’s Next Catholic Prime Minister?” Crisis Magazine. https://www.crisismagazine.com/2018/britains-next-catholic-prime-minister. When citing in the text of your paper, please cite parenthetically according to the following example (Turley 2018).
10 points will be deducted if you don’t cite appropriately.
V. Length: Your paper must be at least 1,000 words in length (NOT including the Work Cited). Please refrain from using footnotes or endnotes.
Points will be deducted for brevity.
5 points will be deducted for “irrelevant material” (e.g., you set out to determine the causes of terrorism, yet you add a long, unrelated discussion on a brief encounter you had with a foreign exchange student from Saudi Arabia). This is a method commonly used by students in order to reach the 4-page mark.

VI. Punctuality and Format
20 points will be deducted for each day that your paper is late
5 points will be deducted if you do not submit your paper as a Word document.
