My selected topic : ‘Cognitive Film: How Narrative Affects Emotions’
I have selected 5 empirical studies for the selected topic but if you have better options for the papers please let me know.
I will see if that fits my assignment.
Literature review guideliness :
You will research and write up a focused literature review of no fewer than 5 key resources on your
topic.
As you consider topics, be aware that at least 5 papers are required; this may rule some topics out
for being either too specialized or being under-researched at this point in time.
Your selected sources should reflect both a narrow research topic and careful consideration as to a.
the centrality of your papers to your topic and b. their importance within the field. The number of
times a source has been cited is often a good way to measure its importance. Some older sources
are considered foundational – you may encounter references to them repeatedly, which is a good
sign that they are. However, citations accumulate over time, so newer articles may have fewer
than those that are older, and very recent publications (in the last 1-2 years) may have only a few
citations or none at all due to the time required to conduct and publish research.
1. An introductory section (1-3 paragraphs) – this should
detail the topic and scope of the literature review, define or explain any
terms necessary, and offer broad overview comments on the literature in your
area of study.
2. Summaries of your selected articles – Taking each
article in turn in a logical order (often chronologically, but potentially
along different lines such as key divisions of theory), summarize the content
of each article including its research question or argument, its methods, and
its results. If articles are related to each other, building on prior research
that you cover or in conflict with it, indicate this.
Please follow the conventions for scientific literature
reviews:
–  First names should not be used in the body of
your text. Use the formula (for example):
Smith (2012) investigated… (single author)
or
Smith et al. (2013) investigated… (multiple authors)
If you need to differentiate between authors with the
same first name, include a first initial or two if necessary (for example, A
Smith (2012) vs. (S Smith (2012)).
–  Avoid writing out the full title of your
chosen papers in the body of the text, to save word count for your
summaries.
–  Avoid including quoted material in your
literature review, as this is not common practice in the sciences.
3. A closing discussion reflecting on your literature
review (1-2 paragraphs). This may include comments on the variety (or lack
thereof) of approaches taken, agreements or disagreements across the different
articles, the building of consensus (or lack thereof), etc.
TIP: It is a good idea to write the summaries of your
articles first before writing your introduction and closing discussion.
4. A reference list detailing all references used,
consistently following either the Kent Harvard Style Guide or the APA (American
Psychology Association) referencing system.
Your reference list will contain the names of all authors of papers with
multiple authors, along with the full title of each article, e.g.
Smith,
S. (2012). Name of paper. Journal title, volume and issue, page numbers.
but
Smith, S., Brown, J., Jones, D. and Evans, B. (2012).
Name of paper. Journal title, volume and issue, page numbers.
I have uploaded one example of a good literature review. please read it if you are having a struggle writing.
