April 5, 2024

My research would be analyzing The Enduring Impact of Structural Racism and its Influence on Current Racial Economic Gaps in the U.S., with an Emphasis on the States of the Former Confederacy.
My research question How significantly does the historical backdrop of systemic racism, particularly in the states that were once part of the Confederacy, impact the current racial differences in income throughout the United States, especially the Former Confederacy?
Former confederacy means the South part of the U.S.
The regions include:
New England, Middle Atlantic, East North Central, West North Central, South Atlantic, East South Central, West South Central, Mountain, Pacific.
Race includes: African Americans and Whites
Prompt:
1. Abstract(0.5 pages): summarizing the question, methods(I will use regression such as logistic regression and correlation) and results (you write that last, result would be by analyzing the variavle of Race: African Americans and whites, Region: South and other states.
Education: high school degree or above and below high school degree, Working status, Industry, South16*African Americans: interaction term between region and race to investigate if there’s a combined effect of being an African American in the former Confederate states on income, Age,  Marital, HRS1: How many hours did you work last week, at all jobs? Then, showing that white people are having higher income)
2. Introduction (1.5 pages): what is your question and why it is important to do this
research; outline what you will be doing. Explain what topic you are studying and what question in particular you are asking; this require to say what are main independent and dependent variable(s). Then state your hypothesis about how the Independent Variables and Dependent Variable should be related. (My dependent variable would be individual’s median income and my independent variable would be Race: African Americans and whites, Region: South and other states. Education: high school degree or above and below high school degree, Working status, Industry, South16*African Americans: interaction term between region and race to investigate if there’s a combined effect of being an African American in the former Confederate states on income, Age,  Marital, and HRS1. I would compare them in different regions and race in order to show the difference of income between two races)
My hypothesis: The persistent impact of systemic racism in states that were once part of the Confederacy plays a major role in the racial income gaps seen today across the United States.
3. Theoretical Background/Literature Review (10 pages). Use this as a way to lead into what hasn’t been done or your unique take on the issue. Introduce concepts and how they have been measured. Last graph should outline your unique position and why doing this research is needed.
