For this assignment, each student is to conduct an interview with someone who is currently in the stage of late adulthood (>65 years of age). Most students will elect to interview a parent, grandparent or other relative; that’s fine and I certainly encourage it. I hope you learn something about your lineage that you weren’t aware of. However, I expect this to be a an academic endeavor resulting on an objective view of late adulthood and a better understanding of what the aging process entails.
Your final paper must include a descriptive and analytical reflection of:
– the limiting physical changes that the subject has had to adjust to, how they have adjusted, and how successful the adjustments have been
– An assessment of Erickson’s Ego Integrity versus Despair (description, explanation, and analysis)
– Assessment of personal and social relationships (Description and analysis)
And at least two of the following issues
– Issues of Speech and Memory
– Issues of Ageism
– Expectations versus reality of social and economic support in retirement
– Issues of Disengagement Theory
While I intend for the paper to be reflective of the subject’s personal experience and the student’s interpretations, I also intend for it to be academically responsible. Submit the paper in APA format, no less than 650 meaningful words in the content, and appropriate in grammar and composition. Your text book may serve as your only cited source.
