More people die from chronic disease than any other cause, and men suffer from chronic disease more so
than women. Chronic diseases often kill people slowly and have many known treatments. Chronic disease
states such as diabetes mellitus and hypertension are essentially slow-moving epidemics with enormous
consequences in terms of cost of human life and healthcare system burden. Yet, many people seem to
simply accept such diagnoses as part of their daily life and do little to combat them. For this project,
you will choose a chronic disease and write a paper that explains the implications and ramifications of the
diagnosis you choose.
For this project, you will write a
8 page paper that explains, in depth, the implications and ramification of the
diagnosis that you chose.
Include the following in your paper:
– Causes of and risk factors for the problem
– Data to support the magnitude of the problem
– Ethnic, racial, or economic class variations
– Yearly cost of the problem
– Current treatments
– Barriers to treatment
* Provide a title page (not counted in the final page count), an introduction, conclusion, and several sections of your choosing that make up the body of your paper and address the costs, risk factors,
demographics/epidemiology, variations, treatments, barriers to treatment, Utilize at least five references cited in correct APA style, including at least two relevant references that you find on your own, which were not included in the course study materials
