These are the requirements for the Monsanto case.
You will complete two files which will be the basis for the submission for this assignment:
Excel file: Use the Monsanto student spreadsheet to develop a one-year forward financial forecast and ratio analysis for the company
Word: the base document that will be submitted which will include the embedded Excel file
Excel analysis instructions:
Download the Monsanto student spreadsheet from the week#2 folder (the file contains Exhibits 1-3)
Save it with your last name included at the end of the file
Using the information provided in the Excel file and the case you will create a 2009 financial forecast of the income statement and the balance sheet, using the following approach:
Exhibit TN1: complete the ratio analysis of Monsanto which will support the development of a forecast
Exhibits TN2 and 3: Complete the 2009F column by using the data in the case and the ratios developed in TN1
General assumptions and exclusions for the forecast:
Do not forecast long term debt and equity accounts
Assume interest expense remains at the 2008 level
Assume a 20% growth in corn seeds and traits and a 10% growth in RoundUp
Word document:
Develop a professional report that provides insight into your forecast and analysis
Should be in memo form and addressed to the CFO of the business
In addition to providing insight into the forecast and assumptions you should also answer the following questions:
What are the principle challenges facing Monsanto in the near term and long run?
How confident are you in the accuracy of the forecast that you developed?
Are there any specific factors that should be monitored as we enter 2009 which are critical to the forecast
Embed the Excel file into the Word document near the end
Take a screen print of TN1, TN2 and TN3 and include them in the appendix of the paper
