Purpose of the Assignment: The purpose of the assignment is for students to develop an understanding of theoretical perspectives and to learn to analyze them and apply the knowledge to identify existing theories. Learning the components of theories will help students evaluate theories and may help them develop their own. Learning the different theories related to change will help students understand and effect change in organizations.

Tasks:
Write a 1,250 to 1,500 words paper that addresses the following:
a. Describe classic and contemporary theoretical foundation of organizational change (such as closed and open systems) AND of leadership (such as traits, contingency, transformation, etc.) as they relate to organization change. Support it with relevant research: use several relevant sources.
b. Compare and contrast the different perspectives about the relationship between leadership and organization change. Explain the importance for leaders of organizations of planning, implementing, and managing change effectively. Support it with relevant research: use several relevant sources.
c. Identify the different assumptions for developing theories and analyze two leadership theories according to the assumptions of Peter Drucker.
d. Analyze the theoretical classification of organization development of life cycle, teleological, dialectical, and evolutionary theories. Briefly describe each of them, and provide a specific example of a theory under each of the classifications. Note: the textbook does not provide examples. You need to analyze each classification and compare popular change and development theories to determine where each theory would fall under the four classifications of Van de Ven and Poole (Ch 8).

Research peer-reviewed documents from Google Scholar and professional journals. Use at least five sources and as many as needed to support your work. APA format. Write in third person for appropriate academic tone. Use headings to organize your paper by following each of the assignment requirements shown as a, b, and c above. Examples of headings are Leadership Theories and Classification of Theories. Each assignment requirement above must be supported with several relevant research sources as acknowledged with in-text citations, and those citations listed with the full information in References.
