You will be assigned an infectious disease Week 1 of the semester. You will have until Week 7 (the week before the final exam) to complete the project. For the pathogen you are assigned, research the following:
a) The etiological agent (pathogen): include genus and species and any common names
b) Classification of the pathogen: type of organism, morphological characteristics, any unique or unusual structures
c) Signs and symptoms and potential complications of disease
d) Identification: laboratory diagnosis methods
e) Epidemiology of the disease: predisposing factors (who is at greatest risk), reservoir (s) for pathogen, transmission route(s), and human behavior(s) involved in its spread.
f) Disease statistics: most recent annual number of cases, mortality rates
g) Control of the pathogen/disease that includes methods of prevention, infection control and treatment options (response/resistance to chemotherapy).
h) Images: must include at least three meaningful images (pictures, charts, graphs)
i) References: URL addresses, periodicals, journals, textbooks, etc. (Note you must have at least four references). References should be properly cited using APA format. Do Not use Wikipedia, WebMD or any other .com sites. You need to stick to sources such as the CDC, WHO, textbooks or scientific journal articles.
Use this information to generate a PowerPoint presentation. You should have at least 15 slides, including a cover slide with a title, and your name, a summary slide, and a reference citation slide). Once complete, save your presentation as a PDF file and upload it to the assignment link in Canvas (will be in Week 7 module)
