MGMT 301
Group and Team Behavioral Analysis
Final Paper
Overview. Each student is required to write a 1000-1200-word paper (approximately 4-5 pages)
that will analyze your group/team project experiences this semester. Overall, your job is to
critically examine your group/team’s functioning, diagnose any issues that took place, and
provide insights to explain your process and your outcomes. In general, the ideal paper will
describe what was done well, what could be improved, and how you might improve it. You will
need to examine your group/team and write your reflection from two perspectives: 1) group/team
perspective and 2) individual perspective. In both cases, be sure to connect your experiences to
the group and team material covered in the course.
1. Group/Team Perspective:
When writing from the group/team perspective, it’s best to focus on the most significant
experiences of the group/team as a whole. Assess the most important characteristics of your
project experiences, and make them the “theme(s)” of the paper. You should refer back to
text and class concepts and theories from the areas in which you choose to focus your paper.
These theories and concepts should be defined and used to support your assertions and
conclusions. For instance, if your group includes a strong leader, then perhaps leadership and
its impact on the group processes should be a theme. If your group experienced
communication issues, then their impact and how you overcome them might be a good
theme. If many conflicts occurred, then perhaps conflict management would be a good
theme.
2. Individual Reflection:
The individual portion of your paper will be a reflection on your individual learning within
the group/team. Pertinent questions that should be answered in your analysis include but are
not limited to:
 What did YOU do?
 Did everyone contribute equally?
 Do you feel you were in a “group” or a “team?” Why?
 What did you learn about group/team processes and about yourself while working on the
project?
 What would you do differently, if anything, the next time you have a group/team project?
 How will you use what you learned in the future?
Grading. Your grade will be based on the degree to which you correctly identify, define,
analyze, and apply OB concepts, particularly group and team concepts, to your experiences and
how you reflect on your learning and its application. Also, it will depend on your level of
professionalism in writing (i.e., correct grammar, spelling and punctuation; clarity of exposition;
organization, proper use of citation style; adherence to the requirements, etc.). A grading rubric
will be provided.
