Mechanisms of Health and Disease Research Paper
By now your research on health Disparities should be helping you to uncover specific diseases that are linked to discrepancy in health care. If you have not already identified a specific disease linked to your goal question you will need to do so.  Once you have identified this diseases or physiological conditions you will write a paper that discusses how he disease manifests including the physiological consequences and current treatments.
Research paper Format:

http://www.apastyle.org/
Basically, you will be required to include a title page and a reference list that include all
references cited within the text. You are not required to provide an abstract.
Start by familiarizing yourself with the normal mechanism before researching the
disease/disorder/condition. We may or may not have discussed the mechanisms in class,
so this will require research on your part. I suggest using the text book as a starting point.
For example if the disease topic you chose was Ischemia, then you would first need to
research the mechanism of normal blood flow and oxygen transport.
Next, begin your research on the disease/condition. Remember the focus of your paper
should be on physiological mechanisms, that is what goes wrong in the normal
physiology that causes the symptoms of the disease. Many of the diseases may also be
linked to a specific gene or set of genes. Think about how we have linked dysfunction at
the genetic and cellular level to dysfunction of tissues, organs and systems when
researching your disease.
It will also be helpful to think a about the normal mechanism when researching common
treatments. Explain why you think a particular treatment is helpful to patients suffering
the consequences of the disease/condition.
Finally, these diseases/conditions remain prevalent and in most cases are increasing in
frequency, discuss the pathology of the disease (ie. genetic, lifestyle, etc.) and what
current and future research is being done or needs to be to help decrease its either the
symptoms or prevalence of the disease.
