Lesson plans are a road map to facilitate teaching and learning. Lesson planning

June 22, 2024

Lesson plans are a road map to facilitate teaching and learning. Lesson planning is an important aspect of effective teaching because it focuses the teaching on the students. To maximize effectiveness, teachers should be intentional during the lesson planning process to ensure alignment between the intended student learning outcomes, assessment evidence, and learning activities.
Recall that in Backward Design, “teachers build effective lessons in three steps. You start by identifying desired results, then how students will be [assessed], and finally what strategies you will use for instruction” (Wong & Wong, 2018, p. 261).
Assessment is a critical component of the instructional planning process and should have a prominent role in the learning process. This means that teachers should plan to integrate multiple forms of assessment and use the data to understand how well their students are learning the content and skills specified by the learning objectives. In this task, you will demonstrate how to plan for alignment between your learning objectives and your assessment plan.
With a clear set of objectives and assessments in place, you are eady to start planning your lessons. When lesson planning a teacher needs to think about what instruction they need to deliver to their students and what activities their students need to engage in to practice the skills identified by the lesson objectives. So when lesson planning, teachers need to think of their actions and their students’ actions. In this task, you will demonstrate how to plan your instructional moves and learning activities for your students that support the learning outcomes.
