Part 1) From the assigned readings and videos, identify and explain TWO learning outcomes (not two) related to the theme of Contemporary Schooling for Indigenous Children, and Indigenous Research. Finish your discussion post with one question you still have about the theme.
Part 2) Reply to the following “The first learning outcome I think related to this weeks materials is to understand the relationships between the psychological, social, cultural and political components of historical and contemporary educational issues affecting Indigenous peoples. I think the reading pertains to this learning outcome because it talks about how diversity by no means is universally embraced. It also talks about how in the United States democracy should go hand in hand with diversity. Yet however, native americans face consistently being stereotyped and face adversity from society. But the natives stay true to their values and “survive on their own terms.” The document criticizes democracy quite a bit in the fact that although we are a democracy, we dont acknowledge and combat the issues that native americans are facing. I think this is interesting because it is still an ongoing topic of debate in our nation when it shouldnt be. We have come too far as a society to continue to have these issue and need to begin embracing our cultural differences in the US rather than separating because of them. This connects to the second learning outcome which is to determine how students can acquire not only basic learning skills, but also gain essential critical thinking skills to contribute to their societies. This is because although the reading is from 2002, it addresses issues that are still very prevalent in todays society. I think this issue is continually being brought up of stereotyping and judging others because of their culture because we continue to not take action as a nation to actively combat this issue. My question is, do you think this will continue to be an issue within society that native american’s will face for more decades to come, or do you think as time goes on the stereotypes and discrimination will naturally subside as time goes on?”
