Journal entry should be between 350 and 500 words each (of text proper). Journal entries should include the student’s name, the # of the chapter(s) discussed or the lecture addressed, the date, and a title. Double space, include 1-inch margins, and correctly and appropriately cite referenced materials using a modified APA format for reference and citations, including parenthetical in-text references, EXCEPT no title page necessary. For each entry, the student should report on something they have learned about one or more concepts introduced in the designated chapters and/or from a guest lecture, making sure to clearly identify the concept(s) chosen, reference some materials from outside the chapter, and include a personal story to provide support and context. For example, for the referenced material, the student may read and reference published material, view a TED talk, listen to a podcast, watch an online lecture, view or listen to a story from The Moth, etc., … and the student should tell a personal story that illustrates the concept.
Youtube video or ted talk is perfect

Summary:
In this chapter 7, we’ve explored communication climate as a foundation of interaction with others. A basic requirement for healthy communication climates is confirmation. Each of us wants to feel valued, especially by those for whom we care most deeply. We discussed particular kinds of communication that foster supportive and defensive climates in relationships.
Communication that fosters supportive climates also helps us manage conflict constructively. We discussed lose–lose, win–lose, and win–win approaches to conflict and explored how each affects interaction. In addition, conflict patterns are influenced by whether people respond by exiting, neglecting, being loyal, or giving voice to tensions. In most cases, voice is the preferred response because it is the only response that allows people to deal with conflict actively and constructively. Conflicts that occur in the online world provide greater opportunities to pause and step away and, at the same time, greater potential for escalation into flaming wars.
To close the chapter, we considered five guidelines for building healthy communication climates. The first one is to accept and affirm others, communicating that we respect them even though we may not always agree with them or share their feelings. A companion guideline is to accept and assert ourselves. Each of us is entitled to voice our thoughts, feelings, and needs. Doing so honors ourselves and helps others understand us. A third guideline is to respect diversity. Humans vary widely, as do their preferred styles of communicating. When we respect differences between people, we gain insight into the fascinating array of human interactions.
The fourth and fifth guidelines concern communicating when conflicts arise. We learned that we can make choices about timing that increase the likelihood of constructive climate. In addition, we discussed the value of showing grace—unearned, unrequired compassion—when that is appropriate.
