Journal Article Critique (Week 13; 20 points)
In this assignment, students will be required to write a critique of a journal article. You will identify and review an empirical research study (e.g., qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods) published in a professional/peer-reviewed journal. You will need to select an article that relates to your concentration of study ( Organizational Leadership).
Elements to Include in your Critique
Introduction: Provide a summary of the article, including the purpose/objective, research question(s), and hypotheses (if applicable). Be sure to use the correct Introduction from your Journal #4.
– Start by introducing the topic of the selected article.
– Include the name of the author(s), title of the article, and year of publication.
– Give a two-sentence overall description of the study.
– Your last sentence should include the main topics of your assignment #3.
Research Design: Define research design and describe the research design used in the study (e.g., experimental, correlational, observational).
Participants: Describe the sample used in the study, including the number of participants, their demographic characteristics, and any other relevant information.
Procedures: Explain the procedures section of a research article and describe the procedures used in the study, including any measures or instruments used to collect data.
Results: Explain what the results section of a research article should include and summarize the study’s results, including any statistical analyses conducted.
Discussion: Discuss the implications of the study’s findings, including any limitations and future research directions.
Critique of the Article: Critically analyze the article, considering the following questions:
– What is the article’s main argument?
– What evidence does the author use to support their argument?
– Are there any weaknesses or limitations in the argument or evidence presented?
– What is your perspective on the topic discussed in the article?
Conclusion: Provide a concluding statement summarizing your overall article critique and address the following points:
– Include a brief summary of the main argument of the article and the evidence presented.
– An evaluation of the strengths and weaknesses (if any) of the argument and evidence presented.
– A discussion of your perspective on the topic discussed in the article, including any additional evidence or arguments you would present to support your perspective.
The assignment be submitted as an MS Word, and students must use APA Academic Writer to create their assignment as well as utilize APA 7th edition format. A template will be provided with the required headings. The critique should be well-written, organized, and free of grammatical and spelling errors. Please refer to the APA manual and the template provided by your faculty member for guidance on formatting, citations, and references. A minimum of six (6) scholarly and current (5 to 7 years) references are required (this includes the reference for the selected journal article). Page limit: 5 to 8 pages not including the title and references pages. See Appendix C for the grading rubric.
