John Maxwell’s 5 Levels: Video Report
John C. Maxwell is an internationally
respected leadership expert, speaker, and author. Maxwell is the founder of
EQUIP, a nonprofit organization that has trained more than 5 million leaders in
126 countries worldwide. He has written three books that have sold more than a
million copies: The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership, Developing the
Leader Within You and The 21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader.
In The
5 Levels videocast, Maxwell
describes positional leadership. He discusses how true leadership is not a
matter of having a certain job or title. In fact, being chosen for a position
is only the first of the five levels every effective leader achieves. To become
more than “the boss” people follow only because they are required to, a person
has to master the ability to invest in and inspire people. To grow further in a
leadership role, a person must achieve results and build a team that produces. Leaders
should also help others develop their skills to become leaders in their own
right. Skills and dedication are essential to reaching the pinnacle of
leadership.

Citing and referencing the video.
This video file was
uploaded by a person other than John Maxwell, therefore the uploading person is
considered the author. The following is
an example of how you would directly quote a statement that Maxwell makes:
Maxwell noted that “leadership
is not a noun, it is a verb” (Thapa, 2016, 0:24).
The numbers after the colon represent the location
(in minutes and seconds) on the video that the comment is made. If you are
paraphrasing, you would write the above statement:
Maxwell noted how
application of the word leadership conveys a different meaning when used as a
verb (Thapa, 2016).
