An SLP, Lucy, who is a certified member of ASHA and licensed by the state, works as an employee in a private practice. Lucy suspects that her supervisor and owner of the private practice, Nancy, is billing the time during which no direct client service is provided (e.g., while writing plans of care). Nancy is a certified member of ASHA and licensed by the state. Lucy has a good friend in the billing office of the practice, Mary. During the conversation, Lucy confides in Mary that this is occurring and they agree that this is a violation of billing for services that are not rendered. Is this an ethical violation?
