Introduction (2-3 pages; 15 points): In this first section, you should introduce your
topic (and its importance). Use three (or more) articles to provide justification for
your hypothesis(es) or background for your research question(s). Do not just
summarize the studies, but rather use them to explain why you are making your
prediction(s) or posing your question(s). End this section with an explicit statement of
your hypothesis(es) or research question(s).
B. Method (2-3 pages; 15 points): Describe the logistics of your project, including your
overall methodological design/procedures, participants (if applicable), setting,
instruments used (if applicable), and any other pertinent details. Cite course materials
as appropriate.
C. Results and Discussion (2-3 pages; 15 points): First, report and interpret your data.
Describe what you can conclude based on the data. Was your hypothesis supported?
Or, if you proposed a research question, what was the answer? How do your findings
relate to the previous research you cited?
Second, what were the strengths and weaknesses of the methodological decisions you
made in your study? Refer back to your notes and class readings, and cite as
appropriate. You might discuss, for instance, issues of operationalization, sampling,
validity, and reliability. Suggest ways in which the study could be improved upon or
supported further by future research.

E. Other Materials as Appendices (15 points). These materials will vary depending on
your project but, when in doubt, turn it in with the hard-copy (or ask me). Materials
that would be included here are, for example, completed questionnaires, audio-
recordings and notes from interviews/focus groups, fieldnotes, coding guides and
sheets, etc. Please also turn in the first page of each article cited.
The remaining 20 points measure the extent to which the overall paper is well-written (e.g., well-
organized, grammatically sound) and follows APA format (see sample provided in class and on
Canvas). Quality of writing is also considered as a criterion in assessing Points A-E above.
Papers that do not follow the assignment instructions will lose points, so please re-read the entire
assignment description very carefully before turning in your paper.
