Intercultural Competence: Common Signature Assignment, RESEARCH POSTER
Intercultural competence is the ability to develop targeted knowledge, skills, and attitudes that lead to visible behavior and communication that are both effective and appropriate in intercultural interactions (Deardorff, 2006). Critical thinking and reflection become important tools on the journey toward achieving Intercultural knowledge, skills, and attitudes.
Interdisciplinary is the involvement of two or more academic disciplines. For example, your research poster will introduce the topic through the lens of two disciplines or two cultures/social groups*.
The goal of a research poster is to share information and to add new depth and understanding to the audience’s repertoire of knowledge of cultural competence.
Choose a topic/issue relevant to the course theme: Language & Meaning Making that you would be interested in learning more about through the lens of two disciplines or cultures*/social groups, one being your own/part of.
Use the Poster Template provided and take a look at the Poster Sample located at the end of these instructions.
On your poster, you will include:

Discuss elements of importance to members of another culture about at least one of the following: history, values, politics, communication styles, economy or beliefs, and practices.
Now, interpret intercultural experience from your perspective and one worldview and demonstrate your ability to act in a supportive manner that recognizes the feelings and needs of another cultural group.
Discuss similarities and differences between the two cultures and explain how you would participate in cultural differences in verbal and non-verbal communication.
Additional questions and answers that will assist you in learning about the other culture.

Thesis framework: What are the
stereotypes, misconceptions, and media representations that shape the negative
views between Spanish-speaking and non-Spanish-speaking individuals, and how do
these perceptions impact interracial relations? This question is
significant to consider because by exploring these negative views, we can
uncover the underlying factors that perpetuate cultural misunderstandings and
tensions. Understanding these dynamics is crucial for fostering more inclusive
and harmonious interactions and for developing strategies to combat prejudice
and promote cultural appreciation.
