PART 2: WHO IS YOUR TOP #1 CANDIDATE? EXPLAIN YOUR REASONING
A. Based on the argument presented by each applicant, explain why your #1 candidate should get the last seat. In five (5) sentences or more, write about how the candidate’s essay persuaded you and give examples of why.
B. Identify ALL of the following tools of rhetoric used by the candidate (or not used) in your rationale and give an example of how each one was used by the candidate (cut and paste an example from their essay) or how it should have been used if it wasn’t. Identify quotes and rhetoric tools that help you understand the writer’s qualities and why THEY should be admitted. Do not use quotes and examples of rhetoric tools that help you understand the person they are writing about in their essays (i.e Harry Potter and/or Napoleon). We are not trying to evaluate and admit Harry Potter or Napoleon to Harton University
Also, explain in your own words why the tool works based on the definition of the tool in the example the candidate used.
Commonplaces
Pathos
Logos
Ethos
Be very specific. Give examples and details from their paper to illustrate your understanding of each tool (a lot of students lose points on this part).
In your answer please list each rhetoric tool and explain your rationale (this should include the correct definition of why the tool is persuasive). Use the format below.
For example,
